There is a new moon in Virgo on September 2nd. Virgo is a strange combination of magic and science, rule-bound but also in tune with esoteric knowledge. Not all magic is fluid like the water of Pisces; Virgo’s dryness contains volumes about secret wisdom.
Mercury, the ruler of Virgo, has moved out of its retrograde, but Uranus has just moved into its own retrograde, in Taurus. Uranus spends almost half of every year in retrograde, in the fall months. And because Uranus is already a planet of topsy-turvy-ness, a retrograde can sometimes be a righting of itself, rather than a disruption. If the disruption is disrupted, maybe things actually settle down a bit? Taurus relates to many things in the physical realm, like nature (and weather), finances, material resources, the body. These are all things that are naturally constantly changing, regardless of Uranus’s influence there. So this Uranus retrograde, over the remaining part of the year, may be about learning how to go with the flow with things like cash flow, social status, aging, the climate. . . learning how to not struggle to control things that are inherently in flux and out of our control.
Because the sun and moon are in Virgo, another earth sign, health is a big focus too. Perhaps we can work on our relationships with our bodies, as well as the bodies of others. We have a responsibility to protect and care for our vessels, so that our vessels can protect and care for us. What are things around the body, safety, healthcare, medicine, and support that can be healed for you now? Even just working to move away from critique can be helpful here, as Virgo can easily take on the burden of perfection, which ultimately works against healthy functioning. Being able to do your best with what you’ve got is better than trying to achieve an impossible standard. Often, it’s our old frenemy Fear who nags us to work for perfection, not a good friend like Joy or Pleasure.
Saturn, opposite the new moon, is functioning as a pressure point, pushing back against the forward motion of the sun and moon as they work together to heal. There is a lot here about delusion, disillusionment, disappointment. Saturn in Pisces is struggling to make sense of the experience of being alive. The usual rules don’t apply, the typical gridlines and the practical steps. We might feel that the skills we have learned and used in life are no longer the right ones. The normal consequences of actions melt and dissolve away, leaving us stranded, surrounded by a vast ocean of all that we didn’t realize was there. Perhaps the focus can be re-focused, allowing Virgo to step up to her true nature of wise seer and medicinal practitioner. Yes, the world around us is simultaneously horrific and gorgeous, and when we try to find our way in some neutral middle ground that seems to no longer exist, we may run into trouble. Lost in the woods, feeling our way in the dark.
How can Virgo help us here? Tuning into our physical senses: trusting in what we can
