New moon and solar eclipse in Virgo on September 21st, 2025
An eclipse in the last degree of Virgo feels like the Sorcerer's Apprentice frantically trying to clean up the mess that trying to offload work onto magic created
It is the second new moon in Virgo in a month, and the second eclipse of the month. The Autumn Equinox happens the following day, making this time a time of marking transition. Shifting from one embodiment to the next. The tension this month is around truly seeing what parts of ourselves, personally and collectively, simply don’t make sense anymore. It’s taking a real hard look at ourselves in the light of day, not the fog of night. The Pisces-Virgo axis is one of reality checks on our fantasies. Practicalities coming up against imagined ideas, and needing to make decisions about which voice to follow. Right now, with the turning of summer into fall, it is harvest time, a time of reaping what we’ve sown. This time can be the gathering of the fruits of your labor, the realization of all your hard work, or the finding out after the fucking around, depending on how you’ve spend your summer. Or we, collectively, as we are as a society in a moment of reaping what we’ve sown, or what others have sown for us. In these times, we can no longer live in denial about what our collective neglect of humanity is spawning. It’s a good time to check where you are putting your attention and your energy. My previous essay was about phone addiction: now is a great time to adjust your relationship to the digital world so that you can participate fully in the real world. Winter is coming, there is no denying it, so it’s time to put on our adult pants and get to work. How does this work, and the neglect of important work, manifest for you? It will be different for all of us, but Virgo’s high-low pendulum swings between seeing the self as valuable and being neglectful of the self, and these extremes shape how we function. Virgo, as the witch, can sometimes be too quick to throw herself on the burning stake, asserting her value through sacrifice, not through productivity. If she drowns, she proves she’s not a witch, but she’s also dead, so she has sacrificed herself just prove her worth. This can be the trap of Virgo.
